Legal Assistance
Area XIV relies on and funds Legal Services of Iowa to assist seniors in legal matters. This includes a legal hotline for referrals and short answers to legal questions and consultation on some legal matters. Service is available to secure rights and benefits of behalf of seniors as well as investigating and working to resolve disputes or complaints.
Typical legal issues for older persons can involve:
- Medicaid, Medicare, health care directives, insurance
- Social Security, SSI, VA, and other benefit programs
- Housing and real estate issues
- Consumer issues such as sales solicitations and credit problems
- Wills and estate planning matters
- Guardianship, conservatorship, and elder abuse
Services are provided on a contribution basis worked out between the consumer and Legal Services of Iowa.
