Area XIV Agency on Aging serves seven counties in southern Iowa – Adair, Adams, Clarke, Decatur, Ringgold, Union, Taylor. The agency provides or funds key services in our seven-county area. Executive Director’s Message
Old age does not inevitably mean institutionalization in a care center. Area XIV Agency on Aging is a group of employees and volunteers who are dedicated to the mission of making it possible for older adults to live independently for as long as they choose to. Whether it is transportation, congregate meals, home-delivered meals, case management, or the variety of other services we provide or support, the aim is independence for the older adult. Having said this, it is important to note that we are not anti-nursing home. Rather we have a very complementary relationship. When an older adult needs skilled care, whether for short-term rehabilitation or long-term, we are very happy that nursing homes and care centers are available to meet those needs.
Old age does not inevitably mean being restricted by health and economic limitations. Today's older adults are pioneers in a changing, challenging world. Many are looking forward to longer, more active lives and exciting new ways to contribute to society. We believe that older adults should have opportunities for lifelong learning in addition to a secure life, free from basic want.
